Lucasfilm has unveiled the first full trailer for the anime series "Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi." The project will be the next "Star Wars" universe series for Disney+ and will be released on August 5, 2026, filling the gap until the second season of "Ahsoka," whose release was recently postponed from summer to early 2027.
"The Ninth Jedi" will be a full-fledged sequel to the short film of the same name from the first and third seasons of the animated anthology "Star Wars: Visions," created by the Japanese studio Production I.G under the direction of Kenji Kamiyama.
The action takes place in the distant future, when the Jedi Order has practically disappeared. The story will once again center on Kara, the daughter of master armorer Lah Zhima. Her father created six unique lightsabers to revive the Order, but soon after was captured by the Sith. Kara then took one of the lightsabers and set off in search of her father and other surviving Force-wielders.
The original short film was released as part of the first volume of "Visions" in 2021 and received rave reviews. Its sequel, "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope," which hit screens in October 2025 as part of the third volume of the anthology, continued Kara's story and filled the time gap before the events of the upcoming solo series.
