Back in late June, Retroid opened pre-orders for the Pocket Nova handheld console, and rumors are already circulating about a new dual-screen device from the company. Meanwhile, the popular dual-screen AYN Thor console is sold by the same parent company, Moorechip Technologies, which owns Retroid.
This "rumor" comes from the SMM manager of Retroid's official and verified Douyin account. A community member asked about the progress on the future, yet-to-be-announced dual-screen handheld console.
To everyone's surprise, Retroid replied: "Second half of the year." Most likely, developers are now actively working on creating a more affordable version of AYN Thor (possibly Pocket Flip 3) for gamers, despite the situation with component prices.
In fact, rumors that Retroid is working on a dual-screen handheld console have been circulating for quite some time. They intensified after the release of a dual-screen expansion module, which essentially allowed any compatible console to be transformed into a dual-screen device.
It's worth noting that the Pocket Flip 2 is based on the Snapdragon 865 chip, so for the upcoming Retroid novelty, it's unlikely to go beyond Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Mainly because the high cost of components would lead to a price higher than what is typical for the Retroid lineup.
