"One copy per hand": Sony limited the sale of disc drives for PS5 - players surprised by high demand for the device
In early July, Sony announced that it had decided to cease production of discs "for all new games released on PlayStation consoles from January 2028." After this date, new games will only be available in digital format – in the PlayStation Store and from retailers.
Proponents of physical versions began to actively criticize the company, and some went to the official Sony store to purchase a disc drive. On the company's website, they noticed a notification – the sale of disc drives was limited:
Due to high demand, there is a limit: no more than 1 unit per order.

However, there is a nuance: in fact, this notification about the restriction appeared long before the announcement of the cessation of disc production (for example, it can be seen on last year's version of the page in Web Archive).
Some players simply did not pay attention to the situation with the availability of disc drives for PlayStation 5 before, and therefore, having made an "discovery," they began to build theories about some of Sony's plans.
Dissatisfied users are now calling for the cancellation of PlayStation Plus subscriptions to try to convince Sony to keep physical copies of games.
