Obsidian lost dozens of employees after massive Xbox layoffs - Media

Obsidian Entertainment became one of the Xbox studios affected by Microsoft's wave of layoffs. The team regularly released games for Xbox Game Pass.

According to Kotaku, about 25% of Obsidian employees lost their jobs – approximately 60–70 people. The layoffs affected producers, artists, designers, programmers, testers, writers, and other specialists.

Among those laid off were employees who had worked at the studio for over ten years. Obsidian lost, among others, the art director of The Outer Worlds and its only recruiter.

The main layoffs occurred on July 6 during the first wave of Xbox layoffs. Some employees will leave later. However, the development of Grounded 2 and the expansion for The Outer Worlds 2 is expected to continue. The future of other projects remains uncertain.

The layoffs show that even productive Microsoft studios are not immune to Xbox's large-scale restructuring.
