Sony's decision to completely stop producing game discs for PlayStation starting in January 2028 continues to draw a wave of criticism. According to High Chaos Run, the news came as a surprise not only to players but also to major publishers, business partners, and even PlayStation's own regional divisions, which, according to sources, were not notified in advance of the upcoming changes.

According to a representative of one of the major AAA publishers, the company learned about PlayStation's transition to a fully digital model at the same time as everyone else.

Despite our seemingly close working relationship with PlayStation, no one warned us. Only now are we beginning to realize that some of us may lose our jobs much sooner than expected.

The situation became even more unexpected for regional offices. In particular, High Chaos Run's sources claim that PlayStation's division in India also did not know about the impending abandonment of physical media.

One investor, who participated in negotiations to open PlayStation brand stores in the country, said that he continued to invest in the development of the retail network, unaware of Sony's plans.

Why Sony decided not to disclose its plans even to its closest partners is still unknown. According to the report's authors, the company may have deliberately maintained maximum secrecy to avoid premature resistance and negative market reaction.

However, according to sources, this approach only exacerbated the situation. After the announcement, relations between partners and PlayStation noticeably cooled, and Sony representatives, it is alleged, took a tough stance, offering partners only two options: "accept the new terms or refuse cooperation".
