New details about the next installment in the Far Cry series have emerged online. According to well-known insider RogueTx, the new Ubisoft game is being developed as a PvEvP extraction shooter, where players will have to acquire valuable resources, survive in a dangerous world, confront other users, and manage to evacuate from the map.
According to the leak, the main antagonist will be a mysterious cult called the Sons of Truth. The main storyline will focus on rescuing six members of the protagonist's family.
One of the key features of the project will be a time limit. While a timer was previously reported, RogueTx now claims that players will have 72 hours to complete the main objective. The motif of constantly ticking time first surfaced in May, when an audio fragment of the game with an insistent clock ticking against electronic music appeared online.
The insider also spoke about a number of gameplay mechanics. Far Cry 7 will feature safe houses where players can change and maintain their equipment. This is especially important, as weapons are rumored to have a wear-and-tear system. Additional threats will come not only from other players but also from wildlife – grizzly bears, wolves, foxes, and deer can be encountered on the maps.
Earlier, RogueTx published an image resembling the game's key art, which suggested that Far Cry 7 would take place in Alaska.
However, the project's development, according to insiders, is not going smoothly. Back in April, Insider Gaming journalist Tom Henderson stated that the game was literally "in development hell", hinting at serious production difficulties.
Officially, Ubisoft has revealed almost no details about the new Far Cry. The company's CEO, Yves Guillemot, only confirmed that two promising projects for the franchise are currently in development. Reportedly, the extraction shooter is being created under the codename Maverick, while the second project – Blackbird – will be more focused on story-driven gameplay.
