Nintendo has confirmed that it does not intend to stop selling the original Nintendo Switch worldwide.

This week, the company's European division announced that sales of the entire Nintendo Switch lineup in the region will end in early 2027. After that, European retailers will no longer be able to order new batches of the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED.

The decision is presumably related to new European legislation that requires portable electronic devices to be equipped with user-replaceable batteries. An updated version of the Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a corresponding redesign later this year, while the original Switch does not meet these requirements.

Earlier, Nintendo also announced that starting from the end of this year, several models of the Nintendo Switch 2 and accessories for the European market will be equipped with replaceable batteries. Due to changes in the design, the devices will become slightly heavier, and the battery capacity will slightly decrease.
