The American Television Academy announced the nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was included in the list of contenders in the category "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series." The actor received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Simon Williams in the meta-ironic show "Wonder Man" from Marvel Television.

This is Abdul-Mateen II's second Emmy nomination in his career. He previously won an award for his role as Doctor Manhattan in the miniseries "Watchmen." Now he will compete for the statuette with Steve Carell, Martin Short, and other nominees in the category.

The plot of the comedy action series tells the story of Simon Williams, an aspiring actor who tries to build a career in Hollywood while hiding his superpowers. Along the way, he meets Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), who agrees to help him for his own personal reasons.

The first season of the series, which was worked on by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, debuted on Disney+ in January 2026 and received 91% positive reviews from critics and 87% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. In March, Marvel officially renewed the project for a second season.

The winners of the 78th Emmy Awards will be announced on September 14, 2026.
