The long-suffering "Nova" series from Marvel Television has shown new signs of life. According to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) registry, writer Michael Waldron has joined the project about Richard Rider. The series appeared on his WGA profile in the list of television projects he is working on for the 2026-2027 season.
Waldron has already become one of the key authors of the current MCU "Multiverse Saga": he created the series "Loki", wrote the screenplay for the "Doctor Strange" sequel, and is currently working with Stephen McFeely on the films "Avengers: Doctor Doom" and "Avengers: Secret Wars". At the same time, the showrunner status, according to the latest data, still remains with David Bernero ("Criminal Minds").
Recall that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been promoting a solo project about Nova Corps member Richard Rider since 2018. In 2022, "Moon Knight" writer Sabir Pirzada was brought in for the project, but later the format changed – instead of a film, Marvel decided to make a series. Production halted in February 2025, when the studio began cutting costs on streaming projects and shifted focus to more grounded shows in the vein of "Daredevil: Born Again". However, the new WGA entry indicates that Marvel has not abandoned the idea and has resumed work on the project.
According to rumors, Waldron may suggest Glen Powell ("The Running Man", "Top Gun: Maverick"), with whom he recently worked on the comedy series "Chad Powers" for Hulu, for the main role. The writer himself previously publicly called Powell the ideal candidate for the role of Richard Rider.
There are no official release dates for "Nova" yet, but Marvel previously planned to release the project in 2027-2028.
