Game director of Control Resonant, Mikael Kasurinen, shared new details about the upcoming action game. In an interview with MinnMax, the developer confirmed that playing the new game will take longer than the original Control. However, he did not specify whether this refers only to the story campaign or all content.
According to Kasurinen, the narrative is divided into chapters, but this structure is barely noticeable during gameplay. Earlier, the developers mentioned that they were inspired by works such as the “Southern Reach” trilogy, the novel “Roadside Picnic,” and the TV series “The X-Files” when creating the game. As for the gameplay, DOOM (2016) and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are cited as key inspirations.
The developer also spoke about the protagonist's progression system. His favorite Aberrant form is the Hammer, and players will have to unlock other forms as they progress, collecting various resources.
In addition, Kasurinen noted that it is not necessary to play the AWE expansion for the first Control to get acquainted with Control Resonant. When asked how strongly the new game is connected to the Alan Wake series, he jokingly rated the presence of this universe at “2.5 out of 10,” emphasizing that the connection exists but does not play a key role.
Control Resonant will be released on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
