Recently, Mojang Studios announced a mechanic that players had been asking for a long time – Steve will now be able to sit down. For this, a new object, a “cushion”, is proposed.
However, some fans of the blocky sandbox feared the potential impact of cushions on game performance. From a technical point of view, it is a separate entity, not a block, so it was suggested that a large number of cushions would create problems.
A user named Daniel Prantolov decided to respond to the “update haters” – he published the results of his experiment with several thousand cushions. According to his tests, there is essentially no difference:
Will cushions cause lag? Some update haters claimed that cushions would cause lag, so I decided to check. I placed 2,304 cushions (9 chunks) in a Superflat world. The FPS results are shown in the screenshots. What's the outcome? Essentially, no difference. #Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3
According to some players, since these are tests in Superflat (a super-flat world), the results will differ from a regular Minecraft game world. Especially if it's about a “developed world with a bunch of chests, item frames, mobs, and so on.”
Daniel Prantolov responded:
Of course, I could move these 9 chunks to a regular world in “survival” mode, add chests, a few animal farms, maybe even a huge automatic storage sorting system… and yes, there would be lag – but because of everything except the cushions.
