“Spider-Man: New Day” producer Amy Pascal fueled rumors surrounding Sadie Sink's mysterious role. In an interview with SFX magazine, she compared the secrecy around the actress's role to the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
Pascal recalled how Marvel Studios and Sony tried to hide the involvement of the two previous Spider-Man actors, despite numerous leaks revealing the surprise long before the premiere. According to the producer, viewers still want to experience emotions directly during the viewing:
"When the three Spider-Men appeared in the last movie, it was Hollywood's worst-kept secret. Everyone pretended they didn't know anything, even though they actually knew everything. I think audiences like to be surprised. They don't want to know absolutely everything – they want the shock, excitement, and surprises that cinema provides. That's why we try not to reveal anything prematurely – and I think that's exactly what audiences want."
Pascal did not reveal Sink's character and did not confirm any of the popular theories and leaks, according to which the actress plays Jean Grey.
“Spider-Man: New Day” also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Jacob Batalon. The film premieres on July 31.
