The Hollywood Reporter states that Paramount Pictures has begun work on a new film in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" universe. Plot details have not yet been revealed. The studio describes the film as a new story set in the world of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and based on the original film's screenplay written by Wes Craven.
Paramount acquired the rights to the screenplay from the director's heirs after they regained them in 2019. The project will be released under the new Paramount Primal label, which specializes in horror and other genre films.
The division is headed by JD Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, producers of the films "Barbarian" and "Friendship". Other details about the film are not yet available: the studio has not yet decided on the lead actor or the release date.
