Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role as Jaime Reyes, known as Blue Beetle, in James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy." This information, citing sources close to the production, has been confirmed by several major industry publications, including TheWrap and Deadline.

The upcoming film will mark Blue Beetle's first appearance within the revamped DC cinematic universe. Gunn himself stated in 2023 that Jaime Reyes was the first character of the DCU, even though his solo film was created during the transitional period between the old and new universes.

"Blue Beetle" was released in 2023 and grossed $130.8 million against a production budget of approximately $125 million. The film did not break even at the box office but received mostly positive reviews and later performed well on streaming services.

Jaime's role in the plot of "Superman: Legacy" is currently unknown. The sequel's plot will see Superman and Lex Luthor unite against Brainiac. David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Isabela Merced will return to their roles. Lars Eidinger, Adria Arjona, and Aaron Pierre have also joined the cast.

Filming for "Superman: Legacy" began in Atlanta in April and will continue throughout the summer. The film is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2027.
