The events of the Call of Duty feature film will unfold in the Modern Warfare universe. This was revealed by director and co-writer Peter Berg during a thematic panel at Fanatics Fest in New York.
The director did not specify which version of Modern Warfare the creators would use. The sub-series includes two independent chronologies: the original trilogy, released from 2007 to 2011, and the reboot, which started in 2019. Captain John Price and Vladimir Makarov appear in both versions, but their participation in the film adaptation has not yet been officially confirmed, despite claims by some media outlets.
Peter Berg is working on the film together with "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan, but other details – neither about the plot nor the cast – are available yet. Filming is expected to begin this year, with the premiere scheduled for June 30, 2028.
