Chinese Final Fantasy XIV Mobile to Close on September 30 - Global Version Canceled
Square Enix and Tencent have terminated their partnership agreement.
LightSpeed Studios announced that the Chinese version of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will cease operations on September 30, 2026 — just over a year after its release in June 2025. Simultaneously, the developers confirmed that the planned global version of the MMORPG has been canceled.
Tencent and Square Enix explained this by the termination of their licensing agreement. According to the companies, the decision was made by mutual consent due to "adjustments in business operations and changes in market conditions". More detailed information about the reasons for the partnership breakdown and the project's results was not disclosed by the parties.
New registrations and in-game account top-ups were disabled on July 17. Until the servers are shut down, users will be able to spend their remaining currency and continue playing without additional restrictions. The official website will stop working simultaneously with the servers, and the forums and support service will close on October 15.
"We sincerely thank every Warrior of Light for the time spent with us, and we deeply apologize to all players, including users worldwide, who were waiting for the game's release."
