The developers borrowed some solutions from AC Shadows, but many things had to be reassembled.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced was recently released. Game director Richard Knight gave an interview to blogger JorRaptor and spoke about the work on the project.

According to the developer, this remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has no new code left, and Black Flag Resynced is essentially a completely new game. Richard explained that they couldn't use the old code of the original:

Using old code sounds tempting, but think about it: what was it written on, Windows 2000? That was a very, very long time ago. Not that long, of course, but still – the codebase and technologies are so different that we only use the original as a reference.

Richard explained that developers could sometimes pull out some game asset as a "placeholder" or to model new elements based on it. However, mostly the creators of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced simply studied the code to understand how everything works:

We look at how it worked, delve into the data to understand how certain things were implemented, and learn some "secrets." However, in fact, we had to reassemble everything from scratch.

Some things were borrowed from AC Shadows, but for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, many systems were still created anew:

Partly to make them a better version, and partly because there was no other way. And when you start from scratch, it gives you the opportunity to make changes.

As a result, many players praised Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on Steam. The game received "mostly positive" reviews, with a rating of 77%.
