"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" Returns July 23rd - First Four Season Episode Themes Revealed
The fourth season will continue to tell standalone stories about the adventures of the Enterprise crew.
The fourth season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" premieres on July 23rd on Paramount+. The continuation will maintain its standalone adventure format, allowing the creators to explore new genres and stories each week.
Showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers revealed the themes for the first four episodes of the season:
"Viewers can expect a fun homage to Edgar Rice Burroughs' adventure serials, a genuine 'Star Trek' ghost story, 'Hangover'-style fun, and a noir thriller that offers a sci-fi explanation for its dark black-and-white aesthetic."
Other episodes in the season will feature puppet characters, cowboys, and dinosaurs, which were briefly shown in previous promotional materials.
However, Goldsman and Myers disagree with some fans who believe the series takes too many liberties with the canon of the original show.
"Some argue that we exist in a different timeline, but we consider what's happening to be part of the same continuous story."
The fourth season will also feature a young David Marcus – Kirk's son. This storyline will allow the creators to explore in more detail the reasons why the future captain of the Enterprise was not involved in raising his child.
"Kirk is a hero, and none of us wanted to portray him as a bad father. This opened up many opportunities to delve deeper into his thoughts and emotions."
Anson Mount (Christopher Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock), Rebecca Romijn (Una Chin-Riley), Celia Rose Gooding (Nyota Uhura), Jess Bush (Christine Chapel), and Christina Chong (La'an Noonien-Singh) will return to their main roles.
Paramount+ has already renewed "Strange New Worlds" for a fifth season, which will be the final one. In it, the creators will conclude the characters' storylines and bring the Enterprise crew closer to the crew from the original "Star Trek."
