GTA Trilogy creators respond to criticism five years later
Grove Street Games head Thomas Williamson responded to criticism of the remaster, stating that players "don't know the whole story" of its creation and that it was virtually impossible to meet fans' inflated expectations.
Almost five years after the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, Grove Street Games head Thomas Williamson commented on the criticism of the remaster.
In an interview, he stated that he agrees with some of the players' complaints, but believes that they "don't know the whole story" of the project's creation. According to him, if the details of the development were known, the attitude towards the remaster "could have been completely different."
Williamson also noted that, despite the wave of criticism, the collection had many satisfied players. He reminded that, for example, on Nintendo Switch, the remaster remained the only legal way to play the classic parts of the series for a long time.
According to the studio head, fan expectations were so high that it was virtually impossible to create a perfect remaster. Moreover, he believes that only Rockstar Games could have made a remaster that fully met players' expectations.
In 2024, GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition received a major update that improved performance, graphics, and fixed many bugs.
