Gandalf Appears in Classic Guise in First Still from "The Rings of Power" Season Three

News 0

Empire magazine has published the first official still of Gandalf from the third season of the fantasy series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power". Daniel Weyman's character, who remained the mysterious Stranger for the first two seasons, has finally appeared in the classic wizard's guise — with a long beard, staff, and grey hat.

Weyman said that before filming for the new season began, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay tasked him with portraying Gandalf as the wizard fans of Tolkien's works know him:

"Before Season Three, J.D. and Patrick said to me, 'We want to show that Gandalf has finally arrived. We want to see the wizard everyone loves from Tolkien's works.' I discovered a new side to him — one that we all, hopefully, will recognize: mischief and a twinkle in his eye."

The actor also admitted that his first appearance in full Gandalf attire was a special moment for him:

"Incredible, goosebumps. All this time, I couldn't believe it was actually happening to me."

In the third season, Gandalf's role will become more significant. As Sauron gains strength and darkness descends upon Middle-earth, the character will continue to master magic and move closer to understanding his destiny.

"He moves from learning to control his powers to understanding that wizards have a prophetic destiny. Their task is to inspire those around them, to help them find courage within themselves and unite against the darkness."

The premiere of the third season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" will take place on November 11, 2026, on Prime Video.
