Craftsmen turned PlayStation Vita into a portable Xbox

News 0

Although the PlayStation Vita never became a mass hit, Sony's portable console remains one of the most technologically advanced systems of its time. Now, years after the device's production ceased, enthusiasts have found an unexpected use for it — turning the Vita into a portable platform for running Xbox games via the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

According to the French publication Planète Vita, developer Day-OS has released a native client, GreenVita, which allows streaming games from the Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog directly to the PlayStation Vita. The application uses H.264 hardware video decoding and VitaSDK capabilities, allowing console owners to run modern projects, including Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5.

However, not all owners of the portable console will be able to use GreenVita. It requires a modded PlayStation Vita with VitaShell installed, as well as an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which provides access to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The project is still in its early stages of development, so users may encounter limitations. One of the main problems remains the PlayStation Vita's built-in Wi-Fi module, which only supports the 2.4 GHz band, which can negatively affect streaming quality.

Nevertheless, the latest version of GreenVita 0.1.8 has already brought a number of significant improvements:

  • improved streaming stability and fixed black screen issues
  • reduced frame drops and video stream corruption
  • improved frame delivery speed and control responsiveness
