"Everything is only getting worse": Steam Machine will become more expensive again, Valve warned
The real scale of the crisis turned out to be much more serious than expected, and buyers have not yet fully felt its consequences.
Valve has admitted that the ongoing global shortage of RAM continues to worsen and is already seriously affecting the production of the new Steam Machine. According to the company's engineers, supply problems turned out to be significantly larger than initially expected, and the cost of components continues to rise.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Valve hardware engineer Yazan Aldehayyat stated that the situation in the memory market is not improving.

It was the memory shortage that forced Valve to release the Steam Machine with 16 GB of RAM in single-channel mode instead of the initially planned dual-channel configuration. In addition, similar problems have already led to an increase in the cost of the Steam Deck, which, as the company notes, negatively affected sales of the portable console.
According to Aldehayyat, buyers have not yet fully felt the consequences of the crisis.

He also said that Valve understood the possible difficulties with memory procurement during the development of the Steam Machine in advance, but the real scale of the crisis turned out to be much more serious than expected.

Lead Steam Machine engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais added that the company is now buying literally all available memory volumes, but the global shortage does not allow increasing production to the required level.
