After the resounding success of 007 First Light, Amazon revised its rhetoric regarding the future of the series. Jeff Gattis, General Manager of Amazon Luna and Amazon Game Studios, stated that the most logical option for developing the sequel remains the Danish studio IO Interactive.
Previously, Gattis caused player dissatisfaction by suggesting that Amazon, which owns the rights to the game adaptation of the franchise about James Bond's amazing adventures, might transfer the creation of the sequel to another team. These words were negatively received by fans of the game, after which a company representative clarified that no decisions on this matter had been made.
Now, in an interview with GamesIndustry, he again emphasized that the fate of the sequel has not yet been officially determined, but acknowledged the project's success and highly praised IO Interactive's work.
We haven't confirmed anything about who will publish or develop the next Bond game. As IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said, we haven't even discussed it. The game turned out great, and it's quite realistic to expect a sequel. Technically, the game rights belong to Amazon, but we are going to do what's best for the project. We are not trying to bring everything in-house at Amazon. Given the success of the first part, it is likely that IO Interactive should be in charge of its continuation.
Gattis also commented on rumors about a possible acquisition of IO Interactive by Amazon. According to him, such a scenario is theoretically possible, but no negotiations on this topic are currently underway.
In addition, the head spoke about Amazon's long-term strategy in the gaming direction. The company intends to develop its franchises across multiple platforms, combining films, series, games, and branded products into a single ecosystem. As an example, he cited the upcoming Prime Video page, where users will be able to see games from the series and purchase themed merchandise next to the Tomb Raider series.
