Halo: Campaign Evolved Reveals Two Hints at Halo 2 Remake

Currently, Campaign Evolved is available on PS5, Xbox, and PC for owners of the special early access edition. For other players, the release will be on July 28.

Players who have already gained early access to Halo: Campaign Evolved have discovered two hints that Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) might be working on a Halo 2 remake.

The first reference can be seen after completing the campaign on the Legendary difficulty. In an additional final scene, Sergeant Johnson relaxes on a beach, observing the events of the original Halo's ending. As the Halo ring begins to explode in the distance, he prepares to board a Pelican transport, but before doing so, he turns to the camera and says: "See you in the sequel."

The second clue appears after the credits and is available regardless of the chosen difficulty. A short scene shows 343 Guilty Spark flying through space towards a massive gas giant, next to which a complex is suspended by a cable. Fans of the series immediately recognized this as a direct reference to the events of Halo 2 — this is where Spark meets the Heretic in the Arbiter's first mission.

The content of Halo: Campaign Evolved itself also hints at a possible remake. The game already features several weapons that first appeared in Halo 2, including the SMG, as well as the ability to hijack enemy vehicles — a mechanic that debuted in the second installment. Additionally, in bonus missions, players can fight Brutes, who also first appeared in Halo 2. Such a large number of familiar elements has led many players to speculate that the developers are pre-emptively creating assets and game systems for the next project.
