It seems that the return to the Hidden Leaf Village on the big screen will not happen before 2028.

The live-action film based on the cult manga "Naruto" from Lionsgate studio and director Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") is finally emerging from a prolonged "production hell." Thanks to the production documents of the Carmen Cuba Casting agency, the exact schedule for the main filming of the picture has become known: it will take place from January to August 2027.

The team has now announced an open casting call for the main trio – Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno. The creators are looking for aspiring actors of Asian descent aged 16 to 20 who can authentically portray 16-year-old teenagers.

And while the start of the filming process is great news for fans who have been waiting for progress on the project for years, the published timelines provide a clear understanding of when the film will hit screens. Given that filming will only be completed by the end of summer 2027, and a blockbuster with a large number of special effects and CGI elements will require a lengthy post-production phase, the film's premiere will not take place before 2028.
