Darkwood Horror Game Gets Co-op Mode Thanks to Modder
A programmer wanted to play co-op and created a new game mode.
In July, a modder known as felipesfx introduced an unofficial co-op mode for the horror game Darkwood.
According to felipesfx, he is a programmer with 15 years of experience and currently works as a software developer for business. He also studied game design and network systems, P2P for multiplayer games, and is very passionate about co-op games. He had the idea to try playing Darkwood in co-op:
Darkwood is a game full of events: enemies appear out of nowhere according to game logic, there are things that seem real but aren't, so synchronizing everything is quite difficult.
With the help of AI technologies, felipesfx was able to create a modification that synchronizes player position and animation, enemy spawns, AI state, doors, furniture, containers and their contents, dropped items, traps, generators, and many other game parameters in real-time.
felipesfx warned players about potential technical issues:
There will inevitably be bugs in the modification, and I am releasing it publicly so you can share your experiences, tips, and suggestions. My goal is to make the game's campaign playable from start to finish. Currently, there is no support for other modifications, PvP, battle royale, or anything outside the main campaign.
The "DarkWood Coop Mod (alpha)" modification is distributed for free via Nexus Mods.
