Marvel Studios officially introduced the new actor for Black Panther during a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The mantle of Wakanda's protector will be inherited by David Jonsson, known for the films "Alien: Romulus" and "The Long Walk." Simultaneously, the studio unveiled the first logo for the third installment and announced the premiere date — December 15, 2028.
Jonsson will play the grown-up son of T'Challa and Nakia. The character was introduced in the finale of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever": the boy grew up in Haiti under the name Toussaint, and later told Shuri that he received the Wakandan name T'Challa in honor of his father.
The actor appeared on stage with director Ryan Coogler and thanked the creators of the franchise for their trust:
"Thank you so much. Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin Feige. Thank you to this wonderful family, which I am honored and blessed to join. I don't want to say too much, let the screen speak for itself."
Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, became Black Panther after her brother's death and will continue to wear the mantle in "Avengers: Doctor Doom." According to the actress, in the third part, she will have to pass on her accumulated knowledge to her nephew and help him settle into his new role:
"Now she has a mantle that she can pass on, and with it, experience and wisdom. I'm going to have a great time and constantly tease him."
The director of "Black Panther 3" will again be Ryan Coogler, who directed the two previous films in the series. Denzel Washington also received a role, but Marvel has not yet revealed details about his character.
