Cyberpunk 2077 "didn't really grab" the creator of Prey and Dishonored, but Baldur's Gate 3 pleased him in every way

27 Jul 20:18Larian Studios' hit greatly pleased the developer - he has nothing to criticize it for.
Recently, Raphaël Colantonio, the creator of Prey and Dishonored, spoke with PC Gamer and talked about the projects he has installed on his computer.
Currently, the creator is playing the acclaimed tactical roguelike Mewgenics from the creators of The Binding of Isaac and The End is Nigh. Raphaël admitted that he bought it "without knowing what he was getting into":
At first, I was disappointed because the game was not at all what I expected. I thought it would be an action game, but in the end, it's more of a turn-based tactical game [...] But over time, the game did grab me. I think partly because of the frustration, and partly because of the pleasure: it has to be interesting enough to want to keep going. It has really cool combinations because it's made a bit in the spirit of The Binding of Isaac... as if the balance is intentionally not "tweaked." As a result, you can have a completely terrible run, or an insanely strong, almost overpowered one, and that brings immense pleasure — until you die or make a mistake.
He also noted that he enjoyed the tactics of XCOM and Into the Breach.
Earlier, Raphaël played Cyberpunk 2077:
I can't say that Cyberpunk really grabbed me. I saw the "strings," I saw how everything was put together. There were too many such "strings" [connections] in the game for me, which were annoying. But it still grabbed me with its staging... it's pleasant to play, everything runs very smoothly. Good direction, looks amazing, great cutscenes. The plot was interesting. But the choice system... it took me a while to even understand that it was there. After 4-5 hours, I was sure that the game only had an illusion of choice and no consequences, because it constantly offers things like: "Will you go here or do that?" — and whatever you choose, it's more about giving you a sense of participation in the decision-making than actually affecting anything further.
Raphaël then clarified that Cyberpunk 2077 is an excellent game, it's just his age showing:
I'm an old gamer now and very picky, so it's hard for me to love absolutely everything in a game. Probably the last time I liked everything was Baldur's Gate 3. I have nothing to criticize it for. Absolutely nothing.
