Creator of "Lanterns" explained why Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre were the perfect choice for the roles of John Stewart and Hal Jordan

The creators of the new DC series drew on classic images created in the Silver and Bronze Ages of comics.

Tom King, one of the creators of the "Lanterns" series, explained why Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre were perfectly suited for the roles of Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In an interview with ScreenRant, King said that the team aimed to preserve the characteristic features of the earliest comic book versions of the heroes.

Thus, Hal Jordan's image is rooted in the Silver Age of comics. The character was created in 1959 by John Broome, Gil Kane, and Julius Schwartz, with Kane modeling Hal after actor Paul Newman. Tom King noted that Kyle Chandler perfectly fits this archetype, possessing the natural charm and chaotic energy associated with the iconic pilot.

In turn, John Stewart, created in the Bronze Age of comics in the 1970s by legendary artist Neal Adams, combines the discipline and rigor of a former Marine with the creative soul of an architect. Tom King is convinced that Aaron Pierre masterfully conveyed this duality and the deep essence of Stewart's character on screen.

The plot of "Lanterns" will tell the story of a murder investigation in rural America. Experienced Hal Jordan and trainee John Stewart will discover that the crime is connected to a larger threat. The creators describe the project as a detective story in the vein of "True Detective," but with intergalactic superheroes.
