Director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke about the fate of the sequel to "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." In an interview with Rolling Stone, the filmmaker confirmed that the project is still in the works, although the film's premiere is still a long way off.
According to Cretton, who recently finished work on "Spider-Man: New Day" and is preparing to shoot a live-action adaptation of "Naruto," he continues to discuss the sequel with the original film's screenwriter, Dave Callaham:
"I would love to see 'Shang-Chi 2' myself! I was just talking about it with our writer, Dave Callaham, a couple of weeks ago, so fingers crossed."
Cretton's words indicate that the project is still in the early stages of development. Marvel has not yet canceled the sequel, but it seems they have not yet given it the green light for full production.
Given Marvel Studios' current calendar, "Shang-Chi 2" will definitely not be released before the end of the "Multiverse Saga." The studio previously confirmed that it does not plan to release new films between "Avengers: Doctor Doom" and "Avengers: Secret Wars," and "Black Panther 3" and "Ghost Rider" are already announced for 2028.
Nevertheless, Simu Liu will return as Shang-Chi in upcoming Avengers films, where his character will face Doctor Doom and more.
