Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Become Unexpected Hits on PS5

Simple ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2, without remastered graphics or new maps, unexpectedly sold over 7 million copies on PS5.

Activision did not release full remasters of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Instead, players received ordinary ports of the classic titles on PS5 — without new graphics, additional maps, or significant changes. Despite this, interest proved to be enormous.

According to sources from the fan community CharlieIntel, familiar with sales results, both games together sold over 7 million copies on PS5. This is particularly impressive given that these are projects many years old that have not received a major update.

The decision to port the games to the new Sony console was made by Activision's strategy and finance department, not the development teams. The company assumed that the classic titles in the series still had commercial potential — and, judging by the results, they were not mistaken.

The release was not without problems: players complained about hackers and issues with the network infrastructure. However, the community servers were once again filled with fans of the series.
