Three Times More: Metanarrative Metroidvania ICEY Sequel Announced
FantaBlade Network will return to the story of the cyborg girl ten years after the original's release.
XD and FantaBlade Network have announced ICEY 2 — a sequel to the 2D Metroidvania with dynamic combat and a narrator who constantly breaks the fourth wall. The new installment will directly continue the events of the original and promises to answer questions left after the first game's ending.
The sequel will feature a dual narrator system: they will react differently to the player's actions and offer their own versions of events. The game world will increase approximately threefold, and decisions made will affect the placement of individual areas and available routes.
The developers have also revamped the combat system. Instead of heavy attacks, the focus is on parrying, and a permanent shield has been replaced with an active defensive ability.
A mask system will also be added to the game. They can be independently equipped on the left and right sides, combining bonuses for normal attacks and special skills. In addition, the number of bosses has increased, and players will encounter different enemies during the first and subsequent playthroughs.
The game is still being developed by a team of eight people. The crowdfunding campaign starts on October 1, 2026, with a Steam release planned for April-May 2027. On smartphones in China, ICEY 2 is expected to be released in 2028, while the global release dates for iOS and Android have not yet been disclosed.
