Directors Anthony and Joe Russo of "Avengers: Doctor Doom" recalled the first time they heard Victor von Doom's voice performed by Robert Downey Jr. According to Anthony Russo, the conversation took place in the actor's trailer. The creators were discussing the details of the character and specifically talked about the voice, which plays a particularly important role since the character wears a mask:
"One day Robert surprised us with this. We were discussing all the details of the character, including the voice, which is especially important when the face is hidden by a mask. I think we were in the trailer and just going through different ideas. At some point, he spoke in Doom's voice, and we immediately knew: this is it."
Joe Russo admitted that this moment gave him goosebumps. The director compared it to filming the finale of "Avengers: Endgame," where Tony Stark delivers his last line before the snap:
"I got goosebumps. I think this will remain one of the most memorable moments, on par with the 'I am Iron Man' scene when he snapped his fingers. Robert knows how to create such moments."
Downey Jr. returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe seven years after the end of Iron Man's story, but now he plays Victor von Doom. The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men movie heroes will confront the new villain.
The premiere of "Avengers: Doctor Doom" is scheduled for December 18, 2026.
