The film "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" took first place in the weekly Fandango at Home chart after its digital release – the rating only takes into account revenue from sales and rentals. In its first week, the film surpassed "Unveiling Day," "Scary Movie," "Obsession," "Michael," "Super Mario: Galactic Cinema," and "The Devil Wears Prada 2" in the chart.
The successful start on home platforms followed modest results in cinemas. "The Mandalorian and Grogu" grossed about $345 million against a production budget of $165 million, becoming the lowest-grossing feature film in the "Star Wars" franchise. The previous anti-record belonged to "Solo: A Star Wars Story," which earned $393.2 million.
The film continues the events of the third season of "The Mandalorian." Din Djarin and Grogu begin working for the New Republic, hunting down surviving Imperial remnants, and become embroiled in an operation to rescue Rotta the Hutt. The film was directed by Jon Favreau, who wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor. Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White starred.
The digital release took place on July 14 on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango. The film has not yet appeared on Disney+. Physical editions on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD will go on sale on August 25.
