Final Fantasy XIV will set a new record for storage space on the Nintendo Switch 2. According to information from the game's page in the Nintendo eShop, the project will require 117.2 GB of free space for installation — almost half of the console's built-in memory, which is equipped with a 256 GB drive.
Final Fantasy XIV will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4. Due to its impressive size, console owners will likely have to delete already installed games or purchase additional microSD Express memory cards.
Such a large amount of data is explained by the fact that the Switch 2 version includes five major expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail. Thanks to this, players will not have to download them separately. In the future, the game will become even larger: Square Enix is already preparing a sixth expansion called Evercold, which will also take up additional space on the device's memory.
Interestingly, the size of the Nintendo Switch 2 version turned out to be approximately twice as large as the PlayStation 5 edition, but comparable to the file size on PC.
The new record also belongs to Square Enix itself. Before the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV, the largest game on Switch 2 was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which occupied 91.8 GB. In addition, the company holds another achievement: the Kingdom Hearts Collection, which includes three games in the series, requires about 131 GB of free space.
