Kenji Kamiyama, director of the animated series "Star Wars: Visions. The Ninth Jedi," explained how La Kara will help rethink the traditional perception of Jedi. In an interview with Crunchyroll, the director admitted that before starting work, he rewatched the entire franchise and paid attention to the strict limitations of the Jedi Order:
"While working on this story, I rewatched all of 'Star Wars' from beginning to end. I noticed that Jedi are traditionally very closely tied to the Order, so I wanted to rethink what a Jedi could be outside of that rigid structure. Sometimes Sith seem freer and immediately attract more attention, while Jedi appear constrained in comparison. I wanted Kara to go beyond these limitations and show a new image of a Jedi. A dark side can exist within a Jedi, but they can overcome it and become a true Jedi despite it. I hope Kara can embody this idea, especially in the context of her confrontation with Navaam. I want her to become a heroine who helps pave the way for a new type of Jedi Order."
Kamiyama believes that internal conflict makes positive heroes more interesting. As an example, the director cited Batman, who constantly struggles with his own darkness:
"I think it's quite difficult to create an appealing Jedi. If a character only does good deeds, they might seem boring. Heroes with internal contradictions are usually more interesting. For example, a darkness similar to what is present in villains is hidden within Batman, but he still tries to do the right thing. Such characters are what attract viewers."
In addition to internal darkness, Kara is distinguished by natural compassion. According to Kamiyama, the heroine helps others of her own free will, without waiting for orders or instructions from the Order.
The series "Star Wars: Visions. The Ninth Jedi" will continue the story of the short film "The Ninth Jedi" from the first and third seasons of the "Star Wars: Visions" anthology. The premiere will take place in August 2026 on Disney+.
