Star Wars Zero Company Creators Abandoned Novels and Non-linearity, Focusing on Tactics
XCOM series veterans from Bit Reactor have abandoned romantic storylines and non-linear plots with multiple endings in favor of a linear story.
Fans of tactical turn-based games have high hopes for Star Wars Zero Company, a new project from Bit Reactor, a studio founded by veterans who worked on the XCOM series.
The developers confirmed that the game will remain primarily a hardcore tactical strategy, not an RPG. During a Q&A session, they stated that the project will not feature romantic storylines or a branching plot with numerous choices. The story will be completely linear and will lead all players to a single ending.
Abandoning non-linearity allowed the creators to focus on the combat system and cinematic battle staging. Squad composition will only affect individual dialogues and scenes during missions, while the core gameplay will remain proper unit management, use of cover, and correct ability selection.
The Star Wars Zero Company campaign will take approximately 30–40 hours. The creators are banking on the depth of tactical gameplay.
