Capcom data leaves no chance for discs: over 90% of players choose digital versions
Capcom's Q1 financial report showed that the majority of the company's games sold were digital versions.
Players continue to advocate for the preservation of physical editions, but new data from Capcom shows that most buyers have long chosen digital distribution.
The company published its financial results for the first quarter of the year, and the numbers were unambiguous: 93.3% of all Capcom games sold, including new projects and older catalog releases, were digital versions. Physical copies accounted for only 6.7% of sales.
The main source of sales was PCs – this platform accounted for 60.4% of all copies, while consoles provided 32.9%. Although discounts on older games affect the statistics, the share of disc editions still remains extremely small.
Players actively demand the preservation of physical versions, but publishers' statistics show that the majority of the audience has already switched to digital purchases.
Capcom notes that even after major releases like Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata, physical copy sales remain only a small part of the overall result.
