Back to the Abyss: "Gachiakuta" Season Two Gets First Trailer
Rudo and the "Cleaners" will face new threats.
The creators of the anime "Gachiakuta" have released the first trailer for the second season. The video contains footage from the continuation, showing both familiar and entirely new characters, as well as events from Kei Urana's manga that will be adapted in the second season. In particular, the trailer includes a chase scene from the eighth story arc, "Information Broker."
Before its YouTube release, the trailer was only shown to attendees of Anime Expo 2026 in the USA and the 25th Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival. Along with the video, the creators presented new illustrations of Enjin and Zanki. Previously, these were distributed at events as limited-edition collectible cards.
The anime tells the story of Rudo, a young man from the slums of a floating city whose inhabitants dump their trash into a boundless abyss. After being falsely accused of murder, the hero is sent to the Abyss, inhabited by monsters born from human waste. To survive and seek revenge, Rudo awakens an unusual power and joins the Cleaners organization.
The first season premiered in the summer of 2025 and consisted of 24 episodes. According to Kodansha, "Gachiakuta" became the most-watched title of the summer season on Crunchyroll.
Crunchyroll announced the active production of the second season in June. BONES FILM is once again responsible for the animation, but the full creative team has not yet been revealed. Therefore, it is unknown whether all key authors from the first season will return to work.
The expansion of the franchise will not be limited to the second season. Earlier, the creators announced a theatrical production and the action RPG Gachiakuta: The Game. Com2uS is developing the game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its release is tentatively expected in 2027.
The premiere date for the second season of "Gachiakuta" has not yet been announced.
