Prime Video has released the first trailer for Mike Flanagan's "Carrie" series and announced its premiere date: October 7, 2026.
The new version will transport Carrie White's story into the age of social media. The main character spent her childhood locked away under the overprotective care of her mother, Margaret. After her father's sudden death, the girl enters a regular school for the first time, where she tries to make friends but becomes a victim of bullying, awakening her telekinetic abilities.
Flanagan will retain the key events of the novel but will lead the characters to familiar plot points through a different path. The series will also expand the mythology of the work. Starting from the second episode, each episode will begin with a flashback about a woman from another country or historical era who possessed similar abilities. This way, the creators will develop King's idea of a hereditary "telekinetic gene".
Summer Howell was cast in the lead role, chosen from over a thousand applicants. Her mother is played by Samantha Sloyan. The cast also includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard.
Mike Flanagan served as showrunner, one of the writers, and director of four episodes. Stephen King supported the new interpretation of his debut novel and joined the project as an executive producer.
