Writer Brandon Sanderson has completed the first draft of the script for the "Mistborn" film series. The author shared a photo of the title page and timed the news to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the first book's release.
According to Sanderson, writing the script took several months. The writer is pleased with the result, but asked fans not to take the completion of the first draft as a sign of imminent filming:
"After many months of work, I'm happy to announce that the first draft of the Mistborn script is done! Just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first book's release this month. Remember, this is just the first stage of a long journey. <...> I'm quite proud of what we've achieved."
Now the script awaits several stages of refinement and approval from Apple. After that, the creators will be able to start looking for a director, followed by casting, pre-production, filming, and a lengthy post-production phase. Therefore, the premiere date has not yet been announced. Sanderson also previously noted that the film will definitely not be released in 2027.
