In late July, modder SoMNst once again reminded everyone of his work. He has been working for the fifth year on the Half-Life: Alyx No-VR Mod project — a modification that will allow playing Valve's shooter in regular mode without VR devices.
The modder published a lengthy recording demonstrating gameplay and said that the shown demo version will be available "soon" for all players:
Before the official release, I will select several community members to participate in the initial testing phase and gather feedback. Thank you very much for your support.
SoMNst also thanked @EyeCandryMovies for creating the animations, UI icons, and 3D hand model created by Nicklaus, and model rigging by Optimus97.
Not all fans of the franchise appreciated Valve's decision to make Half-Life: Alyx a VR game, but those who played it were satisfied. The game has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam, with a 98% rating after 100+ thousand reviews.
Several years ago, a "NoVR" modification was already released for Half-Life: Alyx. The project also works on the portable Steam Deck device.
