Some Baldur's Gate 3 Fans Angered by Release of Third-Person View Mod

News 1

In late July, a modification was released for Baldur's Gate 3 that allows players to experience Larian Studios' popular RPG from a third-person perspective. Players can enable a special mode where the camera is "over the shoulder" at a fixed distance, and during certain actions, such as jumping or aiming, it will temporarily switch to the standard view.

This release sparked discussion on social media. As it turns out, not all Baldur's Gate 3 fans are happy about the appearance of a third-person camera mod.

manwee__ drew a parallel with Cyberpunk 2077 — some players urged CD Projekt RED to add a third-person camera. He explained that the camera is not an "option"; its choice determines the structure of the game's design:

They used to demand a third-person camera for Cyberpunk. Now they're demanding the same for Larian games. I wish you'd finally understand how meaningless this demand is. The camera angle in a game isn't just an "option" you can toggle on or off in the settings menu. The camera is one of the fundamental decisions that determine level design, combat system, user interface, battle design, and even the rhythm of the game. When the camera changes, not only the viewing angle changes, but the very logic of the game's design.

Vanginence responded to one of the players who urged the creators of Baldur's Gate 3 to pay attention to the mod and add such a camera: "This isn't The Witcher, bro."

Bohjadok mocked players who "want cRPGs not to play like cRPGs."

The modification for playing Baldur's Gate 3 in third-person can be combined with another mod that allows playing with WASD controls.
