At San Diego Comic-Con, "Avengers: Doctor Doom" director Joe Russo shared new details about what to expect from the fifth film about the superhero team.
"The stakes are always high. But in this film, I think everything and everyone will be at stake. Doom is incredibly formidable. He is very intelligent and powerful. He combines many qualities that make him a dangerous opponent. I think it will be very, very difficult for the heroes to stop him. This is, without a doubt, the most ambitious Marvel film."
According to Russo, Doctor Doom's personality will also define the overall atmosphere of the film:
"Doom himself sets a certain tone due to the character he is. His life is marked by tragedy, a storm, onslaught, and anger rage within him. Therefore, I think the tone of the film will be aggressive."
One of the main features of the new "Avengers" will be a full-fledged meeting of Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes with the X-Men from Fox films. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and others will return to their roles. Channing Tatum will also reappear in the film as Gambit.
Russo called this crossover an event that fans had been waiting for a quarter of a century:
"This meeting has been 25 years in the making. I was young when the first X-Men films came out, and I grew up with them. So seeing this cast on set was amazing. I was overwhelmed with joy. Before working on these films, I was a fan, and now I could feel like one again on set with this incredible cast."
The premiere of "Avengers: Doctor Doom" is scheduled for December 18, 2026.
