Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has revealed new details about Microsoft's gaming division development strategy. According to an internal memo obtained by the media, three Xbox franchises alone generate over $1 billion in revenue for the company annually, and the corporation intends to further focus on developing its most successful brands.
This strategy is already beginning to be implemented. Microsoft is re-evaluating the priorities of its owned studios, including Bethesda, giving increased attention to the most successful series, such as Fallout. At the same time, the company plans to develop its brands far beyond video games — this includes adaptations, television projects, consumer goods, sponsorship programs, themed events, and new international partnerships, including cooperation with China.
Sharma did not specify which three franchises annually generate over $1 billion, so there is no official list yet. However, in the industry, Minecraft, Call of Duty, and Candy Crush are considered the most likely candidates. All three brands have a huge audience and continue to bring significant revenue to Microsoft through game sales, in-game purchases, and the mobile segment.
