"Spider-Man: A New Day" continues to rewrite American box office history. According to preliminary data from Deadline, on its first day, the film will earn between $167 million and $173 million in the US and Canada, including previews. The previous record belonged to "Avengers: Endgame," which debuted in 2019 with $157.4 million.
The result of "A New Day" also significantly surpassed the figures of the previous film about Peter Parker. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" earned $121.96 million on its first day, and its debut weekend ended with $260.1 million.
At the same time, the final calculations adjusted the previously published data for previews: instead of the announced $74.5 million, the film collected $72 million. Despite the revision, the result still remains an absolute record — the previous figure belonged to "Avengers: Endgame" with $60 million.
Now "Spider-Man: A New Day" can aim for "Endgame's" main record — $357.1 million for its debut weekend in the US and Canada. Analysts currently predict the film will open above $330 million, which would secure it the second-best result in box office history, but with more stable collections on Saturday and Sunday, the film could approach $357 million or surpass that mark.
At the same time, the North American box office could set an overall record. According to forecasts, all films in release will collectively earn between $407 million and $412 million over the weekend. Incidentally, the previous maximum of $402 million was recorded at the start of "Avengers: Endgame" in April 2019.
