The final trailer for the anime film "Ribbon no Kishi" – a modern reinterpretation of Osamu Tezuka's iconic manga "Princess Knight," considered one of the first and most influential works in the shojo genre – has been released on the official YouTube channel of Twin Engine.
The story follows Princess Sapphire, who loses everything after her homeland, Silverland, is destroyed by a calamity named Nergal. As a refugee in neighboring Goldland, the girl tries to find a new home and finds hope through the kindness of the locals. However, Nergal soon returns and threatens to destroy this land. Tying a crimson ribbon and taking up a sword, Sapphire decides to defy fate and protect those who have become dear to her.
The film is directed by Yuki Igarashi, who worked on the end credits of the first season of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and the episode "Lop & Ocho" from the anthology "Star Wars: Visions." "Ribbon no Kishi" will be his feature-length debut.
Production is handled by Twin Engine, with animation by Studio Outline. Character designs were prepared by Kei Mochizuki, Mai Yoneyama, and Issei Arakaki. The musical score was composed by Satoru Kosaki and Ryuichi Takada from MONACA. The main theme is the song Reborn performed by the group Girls Archives.
"Ribbon no Kishi" will be the first animated project in the franchise in 27 years. It will premiere on August 8, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
