"The Most Ditko-esque Film": Frank Miller Praises "Spider-Man: A New Day"
The legendary artist saw the film as a return to the roots of Steve Ditko's comics.
Comic book writer and artist Frank Miller shared his impressions of the film "Spider-Man: A New Day." The author particularly praised the hero's return to his origins and Tom Holland's performance.
According to Miller, the fourth film about Peter Parker in the MCU came closer than previous adaptations to the spirit of classic comics by Steve Ditko – one of Spider-Man's creators. The author specifically noted the appearance of the Hand – a ninja organization he created while working on "Daredevil":
"This is the most Ditko-esque film of all – and it even found a place for my Hand. There's something to celebrate."
In a subsequent post, Miller separately praised lead actor Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton:
"A fan's dream come true. Tom Holland will now forever be my Spider-Man – as romantic as he is heroic. Congratulations to Destin and the entire team."
Although Miller is primarily known for "Daredevil," "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns," and "Sin City," he also worked on Spider-Man stories early in his career. The artist illustrated The Spectacular Spider-Man #27, and later participated in the creation of several issues of Marvel Team-Up, where Peter Parker teamed up with Daredevil and other heroes. Subsequently, these works were collected in "Frank Miller's Spider-Man."
