The Coalition studio revealed details about the multiplayer mode of Gears of War: E-Day and promised to abandon modern aggressive monetization models.

No junk like Battle Pass.

The game will not feature battle passes or other mechanics that push players towards constant spending. Instead, the developers are returning to the classic system from earlier installments of the series: most cosmetic items can be unlocked simply by playing the game.

The reward system is inspired by Gears of War 3. Players will be able to earn new character and weapon skins, emotes, and other cosmetic items by completing challenges, achievements, unlocking medals, as well as using free currency awarded for played matches and leveling up.

The authors also promise that progress will not turn into tedious grinding, and the pace of receiving rewards will be balanced.

Exceptions will be bonuses from special editions, paid charity packs, and individual collaborations, such as with Metallica. However, the rarest rewards for difficult challenges cannot be purchased with real money.
