"Neogenic Nightmare" Didn't Happen: Tom Holland Revealed Unrealized Ideas for "Spider-Man: A New Day"

News 0

In the film "Spider-Man: A New Day," Peter Parker has to cope with an uncontrolled mutation of his own DNA. Earlier rumors suggested that this would lead to the hero transforming into a terrifying Man-Spider or a monster spider.

As it turned out, such scenes were indeed discussed, but the creators decided to abandon full-fledged body horror, as it might have been too frightening for a family audience. Tom Holland spoke about this in an interview with Josh Horowitz:

"At one point I suggested, 'What if he gets fangs and venomous spikes?' That's not in the movie, don't worry. We worked on nightmare scenes where he woke up as Man-Spider, but we quickly realized: 'We want the film to appeal to both adults and children. And this is already a bit creepy.'"

Holland did not specify whether the creators managed to prepare concept art or storyboards for such scenes. Therefore, it is unknown whether viewers will ever be able to see these materials, for example, as part of a digital edition with additional bonuses.
